my marathon goals

I’ve been thinking about why I want to do this while working on my goals for running/ finishing the 2010 marathon. NOTE: When I’m moving slow, feeling down or doubting…show this to me.

I mentioned my motivation in my email to Dave at Pace of Chicago, but I also am doing this for me.

I’ve chosen to be lazy for too long, ok damn near sedentary really. Sometimes I give up easily when things get tough..I chicken out, and take the easier path.

I want to change that. I feel like this is an attainable goal and a big step. I need to do this. I’m excited and nervous.

I have to take a minute to thank Jen Harrison, who has offered to coach me. Jen, thank you. And I know you said you work with all levels, but again I believe I’m at level -1. But, I’m ready.

And a note for the doubters/ the haters…if I get shirts made, your names are going on there as “haters”…I’ll run and finish to prove you wrong. Not only will running for my girls, my dad and family, hitting all 4 of my goals be motivation…you will be too. Right there, with me the whole way. So go ahead, doubt me…the list is started.

With that said, here are my four goals:
1. Finish the 2010 Chicago Marathon, in under 6 and a half hours. (I had a dream I crossed the line with K by my side.)

2. Lose weight, specifically an average of 1-1.5lbs per week for a total of 50- 75 lbs by race day.

3. Create a better self image, instill confidence in myself.

4. Raise money and awareness for the American Heart Association. I would like to raise $5,000.

    Hi Dave,

One on Jen’s triathletes here. Followed a link from her blog to your site. She’s awesome and your goals are great! It will be fun to track your progress this year. Hard work but also very rewarding for sure. Good luck!

    Sincerely,
    Roz

    Hey Dan,
This sounds like a great goal! I just found your blog entry through WordPress as i was surfing around a bit. I’m just curious as well, are you using specific products for your nutritional support? Would you be interested in a clinically-proven, all-natural way to retain 100% of your lean muscle mass while you lose the weight? Just thought you may be interested in more info…
    All the best to you!

Bonnie…I am not using anything. It’s all hard work, diet and determination so far.

Dan, from what i’ve read, you are doing an awesome job–keep it up! Great work! And i love the accountability you feel from the others following your story and inspiration. It sounds like an overall goal is simply to get healthier, is that right? If so, you may be interested in a recent study that’s been done by UC Berkeley…i’ve posted it on my blog if you want to check it out. I’d love to hear what you think about it. Thanks for sharing your story here!
